The M 6.5 Tonopah event appears to include a main left-lateral rupture on an E-W fault, and a secondary right-lateral rupture on a N-S Fault.
This type of sequence, termed ‘cross-fault triggering’ (Hudnut et al, 1989), also occurred in the 2019 Ridgecrest, CA, the 1987 Superstition Hills, CA, and the 1997 Kagoshima, JPN quakes.
