M4.8 earthquake in Wyoming felt in Jackson, WY

At 13:47 Saturday afternoon, a Magnitude 4.8 earthquake struck 38km E of Hoback, Wyoming. This was a fairly shallow quake occurring about 9.99 km below Earth’s surface, and it caused light shaking.

Based on early reports, the USGS estimates that there will be no casualties or major damage. However, some injuries or economic losses may still be possible.

Aftershocks are common after earthquakes of all sizes, and some can cause damage to people and property. If you are in the affected area, stay away from objects and furniture that might fall in the event of another earthquake.
