M 7.8 Aleutian Islands quake


 

A M 7.8 quake shook the Aleutian Islands this morning. The Alaska earthquake likely occurred along the subduction interface. The Aleutian arc is no stranger to large quakes, having hosted more than 20 M 7.0+ over the past 100 years, including a nearby M 8.2 in 1938.
